Our Issues

Preparing Long Island’s Talent.

Long Island’s greatest asset is its people. Schools, colleges, and workforce training that prepare Long Islanders for the careers of the future are how we keep talent — and the employers who need it — right here at home.

Action Long Island connects education and industry so that the next generation can build a career — and a life — on Long Island.

Why It Matters

Talent Is the Whole Game.

Every challenge Action Long Island works on — jobs, housing, energy, infrastructure — ultimately comes back to people. If our young adults can’t find the training, the careers, and the homes that let them stay, the region loses the workforce employers depend on. Education and talent development are where the brain drain is won or lost.

From our founding, ALI has drawn leaders from the business, labor, government, educational, and civic communities to the same table. That mix is exactly what’s needed to align what schools teach with what Long Island’s economy needs.

Our Track Record

Connecting Learning to Opportunity.

  • Made retaining young adults a cross-cutting priority — tackling the housing, jobs, and rental-inventory barriers that drive Long Island’s brain drain.
  • Partnered with institutions like the Small Business Development Center at Farmingdale State on programs that connect local employers with local talent.
  • Delivered educational seminars for the business community — including professional-credit programs that keep Long Island’s workforce and its advisors current.
  • Established the first daycare program on the Route 110 corridor, helping working parents stay in the workforce.

Where We’re Focused Now

The Work Ahead.

Our current priorities invest in Long Island’s people:

  • Aligning school, college, and workforce training with the skills Long Island employers actually need.
  • Building pathways — internships, apprenticeships, and partnerships — that keep graduates working on Long Island.
  • Giving young adults the housing, jobs, and reasons to build their future here.
