Commitment
Accessibility Statement.
Last reviewed: June 29, 2026
Action Long Island is committed to making its website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe the people who move Long Island forward should all be able to take part — and that includes being able to use this site with whatever tools and assistive technology you rely on.
Conformance Status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508. This site has been built and remediated against those guidelines. We consider it partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA — meaning most of the site meets the standard, while a small number of known exceptions are tracked and being remediated (see “Known Limitations” below). Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time fix.
What We’ve Done
Accessibility is built into this site rather than added on with a third-party overlay. Measures we have taken include:
- Keyboard access: all interactive features can be operated with a keyboard, with a “Skip to main content” link and clearly visible focus indicators.
- Structure for screen readers: meaningful headings, landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer), descriptive link text, image alternatives, and labels on form fields.
- Status and error messages that are announced to assistive technology, with form errors tied to the fields they describe.
- Readable color and contrast that meets the WCAG AA contrast minimums for text and controls.
- Respect for motion preferences: moving and auto-advancing content can be paused, and we honor your operating system’s “reduce motion” setting.
- Accessible data tables with captions and proper column headers in the member portal.
Accessibility Tools on This Site
An Accessibility options button is available in the corner of every page. Opening it lets you adjust the experience to your needs — these settings are remembered on your device:
- Text size — increase the size of text across the site.
- High contrast — switch to a higher-contrast color scheme.
- Reduce motion — turn off animations and auto-advancing content.
- Underline links — show an underline on every link.
These options complement — and do not replace — the assistive technology built into your own device and browser, such as screen readers, zoom, and your browser’s own text-size and contrast settings, all of which this site is designed to support.
Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- Third-party content — embedded maps, videos, social media, and payment pages (such as PayPal) are provided by other companies and may not fully meet our standards.
- Documents — some older downloadable documents (for example, PDFs) may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate or replace them; if you need one in an accessible format, please ask and we will provide it.
- Ongoing work — newer areas of the site and the member portal are being verified with automated and screen-reader testing on a continuing basis.
Feedback & Getting Help
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of this site. If you encounter a barrier, need information in a different format, or cannot complete something you came here to do, please tell us — we take these reports seriously and will work with you to provide the information or service you need.

How We Test & Maintain This
We evaluate this site using a combination of automated accessibility testing, manual keyboard testing, and screen-reader review, and we factor accessibility into new work as it is built. We review this statement and the site’s accessibility periodically and after significant changes.
