Our Issues

Keeping Business on Long Island.

Good-paying jobs and a healthy business climate are what keep talent and investment here. Action Long Island’s Small Business & Economic Development Task Force exists to take care of the “family” of Long Island companies — and to give them a collective voice to government.

We serve as a forum for the issues affecting our economy, a catalyst for action, and an advocate for the small businesses that are the backbone of the region.

Why It Matters

A Voice for Small Business.

Our Small Business & Economic Development Task Force serves the overall business community as a forum for the issues that require action — and as a voice to government and its agencies. We work to raise the profile of small business, increase sensitivity to the specific challenges these companies face, and give broader recognition to their contributions to Long Island’s economic and social climate.

The goal is straightforward: encourage businesses to remain on Long Island and help them grow and prosper here — because when local companies thrive, so do the jobs, the tax base, and the communities around them.

Our Track Record

Building the Local Economy.

  • Convened the Long Island Economic Initiative — 38 organizations united to meet the region’s economic challenges head-on.
  • Launched a small-business “Matchmaking” lending event with the Small Business Development Center at Farmingdale State, connecting local companies to capital during the credit crunch.
  • Hosted showcase events and educational seminars — including programs on Empire Zone benefits offering CPE and CLE credit for the professionals who advise local businesses.
  • Carried small-business priorities into the public square through op-eds in Newsday and Long Island Business News.
  • Established the first daycare program on the Route 110 corridor, supporting the working families behind the region’s businesses.

Where We’re Focused Now

The Work Ahead.

Our current priorities keep Long Island competitive:

  • Helping small and mid-sized companies access capital, talent, and the programs that help them grow.
  • Strengthening Long Island’s manufacturing base and the supply chains and jobs that come with it.
  • Cutting the red tape and costs that push employers — and the next generation of workers — off Long Island.
